Hello and thank you for visiting my website - welcome to Caliquin Australian Shepherds and English Cockers. First I would like to say that the wonderful world of dogs has brought so many wonderful friends into my life, and for that I feel very blessed and am very grateful.
I am a USASA, ASCA and ECSCA member and a former ARPH Rep. and current foster home. Being a career Firefighter with Howard County Fire Department is kind of where I got my start with Aussies. Callie & I were also members with Maryland Task Force 1 (FEMA USAR Team).
After the loss of our family pet of twelve and a half years in 1995 and seeing the bombing of the Oklahoma City Alfred Murrah Building, I decided that I wanted to train a Search and Rescue dog. I began investigating different breeds that would be good to do search. It didn't take long to come up with the Australian Shepherd - a breed that is highly intelligent, agile and has a "work all day" attitude. I remembered Aussies from years before when I showed Quarter Horses, they were so smart! And that's where Callie came into the picture and started a deep love for this wonderful breed.
I believe that it is every Breeder's responsibility to make sure, to the very best of their knowledge that their puppies go to the best homes where they are loved, safe and very well cared for!!! My dogs are raised and live in my home and are considered first and foremost family members Puppies live underfoot spending most of their time in my kitchen, being exposed to lots of different sounds and smells. All of my puppies are handled and loved on every day. It is my goal to remain a small kennel producing a limited number of quality litters. Most importantly I will breed to produce sound temperaments, intelligence and a healthy dogs to the breed standards. Only dogs that have been tested and cleared of both hip dysplasia (OFA) and eye defects (CERF), PRA and FN (English Cockers) will be used for breeding. My Aussies are both AKC and ASCA registered and the English Cockers are AKC registered. All puppies are sold on a written contract. If you want to be considered when I breed a litter I ask that you fill out a questionnaire . Please do not be offended by this - I want to place my puppies in the best possible homes where they will be lifelong members of their families, the questionnaire gives me an understanding of your family and will help to assure the right puppy is placed in the right home. I strive to maintain long term relationships with all puppy buyers. I am always here to help in any way I can.
As an Owner/Breeder/Handler I feel it is my responsibility to help educate and guide people who are interested in Aussies and English Cockers. Whether it means helping someone decide if an Aussie/English Cocker is right from their family and lifestyle or any problems they have along the way, or helping figure out that Aussies are not for them. I do not believe that an Australian Shepherd is a dog for everyone and prospective owners need to do their homework and research to determine if an Aussie is right for them. Owning a pet is a lifelong commitment, one that everyone should be happy with.
Please enjoy my website! Feel free to email me if you have any questions about Australian Shepherds or English Cocker Spaniels. I am always happy to talk with people about these wonderful breeds.
