FEMA Disaster Search & Rescue Dog - retired
December 20,1995 - October 8, 2009

Photo of Callie taken when she was 12 years young, by Billie Hall. It is one of my very favorite photos of my Boo Girl
There are some who bring a light to the world that even after they are gone the light remains,  I miss you every single day.
To say that you were a "once in a lifetime dog" just doesn't seem enough.  You were my best friend, my companion, my partner, but most of all, you my dear Boo Girl - you were My Heart.... My Everything.  Never was there anything that I ever asked of you, that you didn't do to the very best of your ability, even in the end I had asked you to tell me when it was your time, and you said it to me with those beautiful eyes of yours.  Callie, you touched so many people's lives with your beautiful face, your courage, your skill, but most of all with your friendly wonderful being.  To you, Search and Rescue was your life, your calling, and it was my greatest honor to be your partner.  It was always wonderful to see you work and how much you loved doing it.  And even weeks ago when I hid for you and said "go find"  it was so wonderful to see that look in your eyes - just pure happiness.

There were so many rough times in my life that you got me through.  We shared so many great times and life experiences and so many "first's".  How will I ever repay you for what you have given to my life.  You are what started me down the path of what I am today and I am so very thankful to have shared your life.  My heart is broken, a huge hole that I am not sure will ever heal, but I do have so very many wonderful memories that I hope will sustain me until we meet again.

Rest well my dear Callie, I hope you are running with all the kids that have gone before you.

You will always be my number one girl!! I will always love you for as long as my heart beats, always and forever.  You too will never be forgotten.

Truly my partner. photo by Billie Hall

From the moment I laid my eyes on this little black tri bitch I knew that she was special - she has my heart and is my everything.   Callie came into my life in February 1996 and nothing has been the same since.   In December of 1996 Callie and I were accepted to be members of Maryland Task Force One - a FEMA Urban Search and Rescue Team.  In May of 1997 we  were sent to Indianna,  to attend a week long school for  Disaster Search Dog Training.  A Level II test was given before the start of the school and the tender age of 17 1/2 months  Callie passed the FEMA Level II Test.

Callie and I assisted in locating three missing people.  The first was a man who did not return home from a fishing trip, Callie alerted along w/two other canines at the  waters edge.  Divers were put in the water and his body was recovered.  The next was a man who  worked at a trash distribution center - he was buried by a trailer full of trash.  And in January 2000  Maryland Task Force One was called to assist with a train derailment w/a missing boy.

September 11, 2001 Callie and I were deployed with MD TF1 to the Pentagon after the terrorist attacks.  We train for disasters, but I never thought I would see anything like this - our country had been attacked, it was a numbing experience to be a part of.  Unfortunately none of the canines at the pentagon had any live finds.  In the darkness of this horrible act there was light - seeing our country come together and be united - Proud to be Americans!
